Kids' Summer Reading Club 2025

Join the Kids' Summer Reading Club (SRC) at the Port Moody Public Library! This free, fun program keeps your kids reading all summer long. By participating in the Kids' SRC, your readers will be able to discover new books, get awesome reading recommendations, participate in fantastic programs, and earn a medal in an exciting ceremony!

This year's theme is "Colour Your Summer".

Registration starts June 1

You can pick up an SRC package from the Library’s Information Desk starting on June 1, 2025. The package will have everything that you will need for the SRC including the reading record, weekly stickers, and a bookmark.

How does the Kids' Summer Reading Club work?

Step 1: Pick up your print SRC package from the Library

Stop by the Library's Information Desk to pick up your SRC package. The package will have everything you need for the club: a reading record, weekly stickers, and a bookmark. You do not need to come to the Library every week for your stickers – they are included in your package.

Step 2: Read!

Read for 15 minutes and colour in a square on the ladder for each day of reading completed. Once you have read for seven days, you can add that week’s sticker to the reading record.

Kids can read independently or have someone read to them. Readers can choose what they want to read – graphic novels, non-fiction, audiobooks, ebooks, picture books or chapter books. Everything counts!

Step 3: Come Together!

Readers of all ages can participate in free programs all summer long! We will have fantastic family fun in the Library including a Reading Campout, scavenger hunts, crafting programs, and more. A full listing of our programming can be found on our online calendar or in our July/August program guide.

Step 4: Receive a Reading Club medal

Readers are eligible for their Reading Club medal when they have completed 49 days of reading. They can receive their medal at a fancy SRC Medal Ceremony in the Inlet Theatre on Saturday, August 23 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. We will have activities, a scavenger hunt, and photobooths set up in the Galleria for readers to enjoy before and after the ceremony.

Please note: You do not need to register or receive a ticket for the ceremony.

If you are unable to attend the ceremony, medals will be available at the Library’s Information Desk starting August 24.

FAQs

Is there an age restriction for the SRC? Can my baby participate?

All children are welcome in the SRC! If a child is not reading independently, having someone else read to them counts as their reading for the day. Babies can absolutely join the SRC and earn their first medal!

Will you be giving away medals?

Yes! The ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 23. If you are not able to attend the ceremony, medals will be available for pick up at the Information Desk starting on August 24.

Oh no! our cat/gerbil/baby brother ate our summer reading club booklet/stickers. What do we do?

No problem! We have extras. Just stop by the Library to pick up a replacement at the Information Desk.

I need some help picking books!

Yay! We love helping readers find their books! Fill out our reading suggestion form. We will hand-pick some fantastic reads just for you. You can also check out the Staff Picks section of our online catalogue.

Do eBooks, graphic novels, Tumblebooks, or audiobooks count?

Absolutely! These are all reading and they all count towards their goals for the Summer Reading Club.

Will you be doing kids' programs and events this summer?

We have lots of events planned for the summer! Check our online calendar for the most up-to-date information and registration details.
