Port Moody Public Library, in partnership with the City of Port Moody, offers Bat Packs for loan. Bat Packs provide a unique experience for new and experienced bat-enthusiasts to learn about bats and take their skills outdoors. Our Bat Packs include books for all ages, as well as equipment to conduct your own bat count.
The City of Port Moody is proud to be a certified bat-friendly community since 2022, which means they are committed to bat habitat-enhancement and education. Bats play a key role in our ecosystem and are important for controlling insect pests, including mosquitoes. By bringing awareness to bats in Port Moody, we can work together to preserve their habitat.

What's in a Bat Pack?
- Five books, including an adult field-guide and children's story books
- An electronic bat detector
- An Android tablet to use with the detector
- A children's stuffed bat toy
- A headlamp
- A tally counter for counting bats
- A how-to guide
Borrowing Guidelines
- Loan period: 7 days
- Can be renewed up to two times, as long as there are no holds
- Late fees: $0.25 per day
How to borrow a Bat Pack
You can borrow a Bat Pack with your library card from our Accounts Desk. If none are available, you can place a hold through the catalogue.
How to return a Bat Pack
Please return Bat Packs to the Port Moody Public Library only, directly to the Accounts Desk. Do not return the Bat Pack in the book drop.
