This Side of Murder by Anna Lee Huber
recommended by Annette
This is the first of three historical mysteries set in England, 1919. The Great War has just ended and Verity Kent, a young war widow, receives a message questioning the circumstances of her husband’s death. Lured to an isolated house party attended by many of his former, fellow officers, Verity soon realizes that not all is at it seems. Not knowing whom she can trust, she must try to uncover the secrets surrounding her husband’s death, while protecting some of her own. The author does a great job of creating the right atmosphere and tension, the characters are interesting and believable, and there are some good, surprising twists. The fourth book in this series is due out later this year.
