Akin by Emma Donoghue
Recommended by Fiona C.
An odd situation occurs when a retired New York professor is asked to take in his eleven year old great-nephew. They embark on a trip to the French Riviera, hoping to find historical information out about the professor's mother. Due to the many differences between the professor and the boy, things don't progress well, but eventually they learn that they are more akin or alike than they ever imagined. The book is thoughtful, insightful and speaks to the real meaning of family.
