The Port Moody Public Library building is open for limited access. In consideration of provincial health and WorkSafeBC guidelines, we are exercising a number of safety measures to protect our patrons and staff.

Not all Library services will be available. Thank you for your patience as we gradually re-introduce services.

The safety and well-being of our staff and patrons is our top priority!

Loan Periods, Holds, and Book Returns

  • All items will have a 21-day loan period.

  • You can return items to the external book drop at the Library front entrance.

  • Late fees were re-instated  September 1, 2020. Payment can be made by cash or debit/credit card (preferred).

  • Items may remain on your account for seven to ten days due to the volume of material being returned. Please disregard any overdue notices if you have already returned your items.
  • You may return items that belong to other libraries to us. However, please be advised that delivery service between libraries is limited. We do not know how long it will take for these items to be returned to their home library, and to be cleared off your account.

If you are concerned about items being returned on time, we recommend that you return them to their home libraries.

  • When a hold is ready for you, you have seven days to visit the Library to pick it up.

Safety Measures

What We Are Doing:

  • Limiting the number of patrons in the Library at any given time to facilitate physical distancing
  • Directional arrows on the floor
  • Separate entrance and exit gates
  • Plexiglass dividers at service counters
  • Designated lineup areas for Accounts/Checkout and Information desks
  • Increased cleaning of high-touch areas
  • Hand sanitizer available for use
  • Library staff have been trained in safety measures and will conduct their duties while adhering to physical distancing where possible
  • Plexiglass panels to provide safe two-way traffic in the hallway
  • See our site safety plan (PDF)

What you can do:

  • Stay home if you are feeling unwell or have cold or flu-like symptoms
  • Wear a mask
  • Wash or sanitize your hands before entering the building
  • Stay apart and practise physical distancing throughout the Library. Keep two metres away from others whenever possible
  • Follow the directional arrows and two-metre markers on the floor for one-way aisles and line-ups

Tips to Make Your Visit Easier

  • Look up items you want to borrow ahead of time
    • Computers will not be available to the public, so we encourage you to look items up in our online catalogue ahead of time.
    • You can also access the online catalogue on your phone or tablet in the Library.
  • Come early and be prepared to line up
    • We will be limiting the number of people who can be in the building at any given time, so you may not be able to enter right away. Thank you for your patience!
    • You may also have to line up so staff can help you check out your items and retrieve your holds.
