Join us for a celebration of writing at the Port Moody Public Library's Writers Fest! From Friday to Sunday we'll have author panels and workshops for writers of all ages. There will also be an opportunity to browse our local author tables, talk to the authors, and pick up some new books!
We hope to see you there!
Register for each workshop separately.
What makes compelling characters? Bring your own characters to the workshop and take them a step further by introducing conflict to several key elements.
K.S. Villoso grew up in the slums of Manila before moving to East Vancouver in her early teens. She writes fantasy with themes shaped by her childhood - stories of struggle, hope, and resilience amidst grim and grit. She has written and published several books, including the epic fantasies The Wolf of Oren-Yaro ("[A] remarkable tale of nonstop tension, action, and betrayal" - Publishers Weekly (starred review)) and Outlaw Mage ("A sprawling fantasy notable for its complex worldbuilding and exploration of social issues." - Kirkus). She now lives in Anmore, BC. When she isn't writing, she spends her days counting to when she can get lost in the mountains again.
All writers need to find their audience. Writing instructors and publishers have been saying this for years because it’s the golden rule to selling books. Readers from different genres have unique expectations that you as an author must comply with or they may never read you again. Before you can write to your audience, you must first understand them. Author and social media coordinator for Crime Writers of Canada, Erik D’Souza, will review several steps that you should take before even lifting your pen.
Erik D’Souza is a Port Moody author, publisher, and professional speaker. In 2019, he published New Beginnings, a collection of creative writings from BC authors and donated all of its profits to SHARE. His most recent novel, Death on the Rocks, is the follow-up to Death in Halfmoon Bay. They are traditional mysteries set on the Sunshine Coast of BC with a senior amateur sleuth. He is the social media and webinar coordinator for Crime Writers of Canada and president of the Tri-City Wordsmiths. In addition, he hosts the popular reading series Writers in Our Midst at the Port Moody Public Library.
