Here are some of the books the staff at the Port Moody Public Library are reading this month:

  • Liar, Dreamer, Thief by Maria Dong (print book)
Katrina is struggling. Her car is about to die, she is barely holding on to her temp job, her parents want nothing to do with her and a secret alternative world keeps cropping up in her kitchen. She copes through repetition, performing rituals... and by watching and obsessing over her coworker Kurt. When she witnesses Kurt crash his SUV and jump off a bridge in front of her, Katrina looks for answers and discovers things are much stranger than even she imagined.
Heather is reading this gripping page-turner.

  • Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (print book • eBook)
Another tale of horror from Silvia Moreno-Garcia involving the supernatural, the occult, former Nazis, a cursed unfinished film on silver nitrate, and dappling in nefarious magical practices.
Steve is reading this supernatural mystery.

  • The Spite House by Johnny Compton (print book)
This is Johnny Compton's debut novel. It's got all the right horror elements - hauntings, a creepy house, and a fractured family struggling to stay together. There is a mystery at the core of the novel that binds two families together in a quest to understand the Spite House and its long-dead inhabitants, and it's going to cost someone dearly to learn the truth.
Natalie is reading this spooky debut novel.

  • Threads that Bind by Kika Hatzopoulou (print book)
In a flooded post-apocalyptic world the descendants of ancient gods wield their ancestors' powers. Forced to investigate a string of terrifying and magical murders, Io Ora, a descendant of The Greek Fates, must navigate the city's darkest corners and face its most vile evils to find the killer and save herself and her sisters.
Sadie is reading this fantastical mystery with elements of Greek mythology.

  • Cat Tale by Michael Hall (print book)
Michael Hall's inquisitive cats set out to spend the afternoon snacking and reading, but wind up chasing words, including homophones and homonyms, on a silly tongue twister of an adventure!
Evie is reading this fun and wonderfully confusing tale of three cats and the adventures they go on.

  • Counterweight by Djuna (print book)
Conceived by Djuna as a low-budget science fiction film, with literary references as wide-ranging as Joseph Conrad and the Marquis de Sade, Counterweight is part cyberpunk, part hardboiled detective fiction, and part parable of South Korea's neo-colonial ambition and its rippling effects.
Al is reading this Korean sci-fi masterpiece.

Julie is reading this fun novel written by the beloved winner of the Great British Bake Off.

  • When Blood Lies by C.S. Harris (print book)
In March 1815, with the Bourbon king Louis XVIII restored to the throne of France, Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, travels to Paris to find his long-lost mother, Sophie, the roving Countess of Hendon. Alas, when he discovers her, she's been thrown from one of the Île de la Cité's time-roughened bridges and is dying from a stab wound. With the times still unsettled, the French authorities have little interest in addressing the murder of a scandalous Englishwoman, so Sebastian himself investigates.

  • To Track a Traitor by Iona Whishaw (print book • eBook • downloadable audiobook)

  • The Brightest Star by Gail Tsukiyama (print book • eBook • audiobook CD)
