An Elephant in My Kitchen: What the Herd Taught Me About Love, Courage and Survival by by Françoise Malby-Anthony with Katja Willemsen recommended by Corinne
From the book's inside cover:
"Françoise never expected to find herself living on a South African game reserve but then she fell in love with conservationist Lawrence Anthony. After Lawrence's [unexpected] death Françoise faced the daunting responsibility of running Thula Thula without him...In this heartwarming and moving book Françoise describes how she fought to protect the [elephant] herd, and to make her dream of building a wildlife rescue center a reality. She found herself caring for a lost baby elephant...and offering refuge to traumatized orphaned rhinos and a hippo....Filled with extraordinary animals and the humans who dedicate their lives to saving them...a captivating and gripping read."
This is the sequel to international bestseller The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony (Françoise's husband). I haven't read that book but will definitely look for a copy. An Elephant in My Kitchen ranks as my #1 best read of 2020!
