Colette Bos

Colette's love of writing and web development has refocused into a new creative writing direction - blending her love of science fiction with her academic background in geography into a more focused approach to environmental causes. This combined interest resulted in her first book in the Bon Echo Science Fiction Series, Bon Echo and The Competition.

Read more about this series at Northern Lights Publications. In addition, you can join her Facebook group, Northern Lights Publications, to receive the latest news on her first book and her upcoming second book, Bon Echo and The Crystal Library.

Instead, to her shock, she solves a heartbreaking mystery from her childhood, leading her to discover her true calling in the great fight against global warming. Read Maven’s diary along with her as she recalls her search for the true meaning of happiness and success through the power of fellowship, knowledge, and imagination. None of this would have been possible without the help of her extraordinary friend and mentor from a time before recorded history. Follow Maven and her fellowship focused on saving the world from global warming. Bon Echo and The Competition is an exciting science-based quest, filled with surprising adventures, and discoveries.

What inspires Colette to write?

Colette has only been writing for a couple of years, much later in her life, so her answer might be different than most. She is retired and spends a lot of time with her grandchildren. Global warming will be a severe problem they may face when they grow up, and with a lot of free time on her hands, she decided to write a solution-based science fiction book tackling some of the problems of global warming. She loves research, so writing this Bon Echo series has kept her busy and out of trouble.

What challenges has Colette encountered while writing?

Her biggest challenge was learning to write fiction. As an indie author, she didn't realize the sheer magnitude of information that this entailed. There has been so much to learn, but at the same time, it has been fascinating and rewarding. Now that she is in the marketing stage for her book, this has proven a fantastic way to reach out to many interesting people who she would never have dreamed of meeting in the past. Writing has been a positive experience every step of the way.

Book: Getting Comfortable with Uncertainty for Teens

A fun and practical guide to help you deal with feelings of anxiety, fear, worry, and self-doubt.

Do you ever feel stressed, worried, or anxious about the future? You aren't alone. From pandemics and natural disasters to school violence and social media overload, today's teens face an increasingly overwhelming and uncertain world. The daily stress of school and grades; friends and relationships; extracurricular activities; jobs; and add in planning for college- there's plenty to feel anxious about. The good news is that you can manage your fears, live with confidence, and make a positive impact. This book will show you how.

In this friendly guide just for teens, you'll gain a greater understanding of how uncertainty can trigger feelings of anxiety, fear, worry, and self-doubt. Grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the book offers ten skills-based tips to help you take "smart risks," stop avoiding the things that make you feel uneasy, and bounce back from challenges and setbacks. Most importantly, you'll learn to become more comfortable with uncertainty, and take valued actions toward creating positive change in your life--and the world.
Not knowing what to do, what's going to happen, and what other people are thinking and feeling can be scary. And as a teen, you're going through a whole bunch of changes and transitions. Uncertainty is a part of life, but with this book as your guide, you'll learn to stay cool, calm, and focused on your bright future!

What inspires Juliana to write?

Over the years, she has been very lucky to work with children, youth, and their families who have made incredible progress over the course of therapy. The effectiveness of these strategies inspired her to take the tools beyond the therapy room and reach different households, schools, and mental health offices. Writing a book, a school curriculum, and online resources about these tools was rewarding. Providing access to the general public to helpful evidence-based anxiety management strategies has motivated her to write.

What challenges has Juliana encountered while writing?

Juggling life and work with writing has been a challenge, as she tends to do many different things at once and sometimes gets overwhelmed. In particular, writing a book for teens was tricky because it had to be engaging, relevant, and applicable to any teen. Another challenge was that Getting Comfortable with Uncertainty was mainly written during the beginning of the pandemic. At that time, both of her children were young and spent a lot of time at home, so she only wrote before sunrise.

Teri Shaw

Teri is a local author, facilitator and entrepreneur who has lived on the West Coast of B.C. since 1991. Her work allows her to connect with people of all ages, from tots to teens, adults young and old, and the elderly. She is the mother to a handful of wonderful humans, all of which she is incredibly proud of. Through experiences and lessons that she has learned along her journey, Teri is reminded of how fleeting life is, and that things can change in an instant. She finds renewed energy by spending time in nature, especially near the ocean. Her first published children's book, The Angel, the Lion and the Secret of the Waves, holds a universal message about the importance of realizing that we are all unique. She is currently in the process of creating her next children’s book while she continues to inspire others through her work.

What inspires Teri to write?

Teri finds inspiration for her writing from ordinary things: places she has been, things she has seen or heard, and people she has met. Teri is able to capture the feelings of many experiences she has been through, and subtly weave them into her writing, taking the reader on a journey of discovery. Being able to take an idea and turn it into a story that has feeling and meaning, with a message that people can relate to, is powerful. Words have power. As an author, it is her responsibility to treat words with the care and respect they deserve.

What challenges has Teri encountered while writing?

One of the biggest challenges in the process of creating The Angel, the Lion and the Secret of the Waves, was finding an illustrator who could bring to life the visions she imagined for the story. Kezzia Crossley was the perfect match. Her advice to other aspiring writers is: keep looking until you find the person whose work best fits with the story you are telling. You will know when you have found the right fit. As a writer, it can also sometimes be challenging to believe in the work you create. Trust the process.
