Series by Gerard Way
I'm hooked on the Netflix series, and so it seemed obvious to have a look at the source material. I enjoyed seeing the how the characters started, and comparing to how the actors realized them on screen.
Series by Bryan Lee O'Malley
Another series I started after seeing an adaptation, and wanting to experience the original version. The comic follows the trials and growth of Scott Pilgrim, a young man of no certain path in life, his friends, and his love interests. The author's Canadian, and Gen X, and really caught the young-adult phase of drifting, development, and self-discovery in this series.
by Gregory Hildebrandt Jr.
The illustrations from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are annotated by the authors. Movie fans will recognize some iconic imagery. The Hildebrandt brothers' illustrations were made into calendars in the 70s and 80s, and their art gave me visuals for the novels until Peter Jackson's films came along.
Series by Scott Duval
And again, this comic caught my attention because I loved the cult-classic films Army of Darkness and Bubba Ho-Tep, starring Bruce Campbell. I'm not sure how well either of those stand up to 2025 re-watching, but I'm going to check out the comic and see how faithful it is!
Series by Jérôme Alquié, based on the work of Leiji Matsumoto
There is little to no depth to this recommendation; I just really like the illustrations, and pirate stories. I used to watch the anime series when I was a kid.
