Looking for engaging but low-commitment reading? You’ll find it with RBdigital Magazines!

Tip: When you visit the Library's RBdigital site from home, you will be asked to enter your library card number and your PIN (last 4 digits of your phone number). Don't have a Library card yet? Apply for an eCard.

We asked our staff which titles have captured their interest lately. Here are their recommendations:

  • Backpacker Magazine
It’s like wandering through MEC but with amazing scenery. You know that feeling you get in the store when you see all those nifty coloured ropes (even though you’re terrified of heights and can’t scale a footstool with trembling), or all those amazing gadgets for camp cooking, which you absolutely need (even though you’ll actually be eating the roast deli chicken stashed in cooler in your car)? This amazing magazine gives you that same feeling! You’ll actually start believing that having read this magazine you are completely set up to take that weeklong backcountry trip to the heart of Denali (or at least know where to start looking for the nearest lodge with room service and walking trails). RBdigital also has magazines on other topics of interest for adventurous types, including sailing/boating, cars, and motorcycles.
  • Britain: the Official Magazine
This is a wonderful tourist magazine filled with beautiful photographs and interesting articles to tempt us to explore both favourite and lesser known regions and historical spots in the United Kingdom. A great way to have a little vacation with your afternoon cuppa.
  • Canadian Living
Come for the recipes, stay for the fashion. This is a solid all-round magazine for checking in with the latest in fashion, health and fitness, home and garden, decor, food, and community, all from a Canadian point of view. The content is relevant to a wide demographic and includes a book review section. Other more décor-focused titles our staff also enjoy include Architectural Digest (Mexico and India editions, specifically).
  • The Economist
It’s a great magazine if you want to keep up on what’s happening around the globe, mainly from a business and financial point of view. It provides a lot of background information for what’s happening in world events today.
  • National Geographic Traveler
This offshoot of the original National Geographic is a lovely way to explore and learn about new places, filled with beautiful photography and informative articles. Other similar titles enjoyed by our staff include Lonely Planet Traveller and Travel Africa.
  • 100 Greatest Comedy Movies by Radio Times
If you love film, especially indies and quirky films, this magazine is a walk down memory lane. It’s a chance to confirm why you loved “Little Miss Sunshine” so much, as well as to read about funny movies you may have heard of but never seen. Included is a feature called “If You Enjoyed This, Why Not Try….” and fun film facts and quotes
  • Outdoor Photographer
This magazine is a good choice for those who enjoy travel or taking photos during their outings. It offers stunning photos and written features about unusual travel destinations, such as Borneo and India. It also offers many beautiful shots of wild animals and scenery, giving us a chance to connect to nature from our living rooms. Besides the regular issues, there are also special editions available such as “Rockies”, “Black and White Photography”, “Amongst Giants”, and “The Future”. For the serious photographer, there is of course plenty of technical advice.
