The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day, take place on September 30 to honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities.
The Port Moody Public Library will continue to amplify Indigenous voices in the hope that listening to and reading the works of Indigenous authors can help strengthen the path to reconciliation, foster empathy, and pave the way for healing.
We will also strive to find other ways to celebrate the rich culture of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, to acknowledge painful truths, and to work towards reconciliation. We encourage you to do the same.
Through reading, listening, and learning, we can help ensure that the truth does not stay overlooked.
This year, the Library was honoured to participate in Community Voices for National Indigenous Peoples Day, a film created “to reflect on our relationship with Indigenous peoples and their legacy, and join in appreciation of the caretakers of the lands and waters our city is built upon.”
Our June 23 episode of our Keep It Fictional Book Chat featured works by Indigenous authors. This episode is available to view on our Facebook page and YouTube channel, and can be listened to as a podcast.
We hope you will join us as we continue to learn, reflect, and work towards positive change, truth, and reconciliation.
