Take the following steps to ensure you receive email notifications, such as pre-overdue notices or program registration confirmations, from the Port Moody Public Library.
The Library offers a variety of email notifications to keep you informed of when your items are due, when you have a hold ready for pick up, which programs you have signed up for, or what events are happening next week. Recently, a number of patrons have reported that they have not been getting our emails. It seems that some email providers, notably Gmail, are sending our notifications to the spam or junk folder instead. To make sure our emails safely arrive at your inbox, we suggest taking the following precautions.
If you add an email address to your contacts or safe sender list, messages from that email address will typically stop going to your junk or spam folder. The Library uses the following email addresses to send emails to you:
Here are the steps to add the Library's email addresses to your contacts list. Please note that the wording used by your email client (Gmail, Apple, Shaw, etc.) may be slightly different from the screenshots below.
Emails from the Library should appear in your main inbox from now on.
If you are expecting an email from the Library and you cannot find the email in your inbox, you can check your spam or junk folder. Tap or click the "spam" or "junk" folder to show emails that have been automatically filtered by the email provider (Gmail, Apple, Shaw, etc.). Note: You email provider may automatically delete emails that have been in the spam folder for 10-30 days.
Here are examples of "spam" or "junk" folders of different email providers:
When you find a legitimate email that has been sent to your spam folder, your email client may offer you the option to mark the email as "not spam" or "not junk". However, that does not guarantee that future emails from that particular email address will go to your inbox. The best way to ensure that emails from that address do not go to your spam folder is to add the address to your contacts, as we described earlier.
Some email providers, such as Outlook (formerly known as Hotmail), do give you the option to mark an email as "not junk" and add to your safe sender or contact list at the same time.
Select the email in the junk folder and click the button labelled "Not junk".
A window will pop up. Check the box to confirm that you never want to send emails from this particular email address to the Junk folder.
Please contact the Library if you have any questions or if you are still not receiving emails from the Library after taking these steps.
You can also check your Library account online by logging on with your Library card number and your PIN (last four digits of your phone number) to see when your items are due, or if you have any holds awaiting pickup.
