The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James
Suggested by Heather
What is better than a haunted house book? A haunted motel book! It is 1982 and 20 year old Viv Delany takes a job as the night clerk at the run down Sun Down Motel located just off the highway in Fell, New York . The pay isn’t great, the customers’ are generally shady, and the doors open on their own, but it’s a job and Viv is out of options. As Viv spends her nights trying to discount the strange noises, the flashes of movements out of the corner of her eye, and the random whiffs of cigar smoke, she focuses on the recent murders of several young women in the area. The deeper she digs into her research, the more she starts to think the deaths may be linked to the motel…and then no one ever hears, or sees, Viv again.
Thirty-five years later, Carly, Viv’s niece wants to find out what happened to her aunt. What better way to do it then move to Fells New York and get a job as the night clerk at the Sun Down Motel, where nothing has changed, and the same ghostly visitors are up their usual antics. When Carley stumbles across Viv’s old research journal she starts to see who may have murdered those girls and what may have happened to her aunt. The Sun Down Motel is the perfect blend of a paranormal thriller and murder mystery with a sprinkling of eighties nostalgia.
