Every week, one of our staff or patrons will share a craft or hobby they are passionate about. If you would like to show us the projects you are working on, email us and we will feature you in one of our future blog posts.
This week, Noreen talks about her weaving projects.
Weaving is a method of textile production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth. The fabric or cloth is woven on a loom. There are various types of loom that are used around the world. Lap looms, riddlehedge, and tabletop are just a few that are good for beginners.
This woven runner was made on a 4 shaft loom.
YouTube is a great learning resource for beginners. In the Tri-Cites, you can take weaving lessons at Place des Arts. You will also want to check out Handwoven magazine (digital magazine available for free on the Library's RBdigital).
We look forward to seeing photos of some of your wonderful, homemade creations. Email us your project and we will feature it in one of our future blog posts.
