The Port Moody Public Library will be closed on the following days for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:
- Saturday, September 30: Closed
- Sunday, October 1: Open regular hours from 1-5 pm
- Monday, October 2: Closed
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day, take place on September 30 to honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities.
The Port Moody Public Library will continue to amplify Indigenous voices in the hope that listening to and reading the works of Indigenous authors can help strengthen the path to reconciliation, foster empathy, and pave the way for healing. We commit to reviewing and updating our collection to ensure that books available at our Library include and are reflective of the Indigenous People of Canada.
We will also strive to find other ways to celebrate the rich culture of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people, to acknowledge painful truths, and to work towards reconciliation. We encourage you to do the same.

Indigenous Storytelling with Red Buffalo Nova Weipert
September 28, 2023
7 pm - 8 pm
Inlet Theatre at the Port Moody Civic Centre (100 Newport Drive Port Moody, B.C. V3H 5C3)
Join Indigenous storyteller Red Buffalo Nova Weipert in a captivating presentation that embodies the raw emotion that comes with speaking from the heart. Weipert uses hoops, film, and storytelling to share their knowledge, teachings, and stories and to explore the intersectionality of their identities, touching on reconciliation, spirituality, the 7 Grandfather Teachings, and the Anishinaabe Creation Story.

Through reading, listening, and learning, we can help ensure that the truth does not stay overlooked. We encourage you to read and seek out Indigenous voices to be more inclusive and informed about Indigenous stories, histories, traditions and worldviews.
