We are pleased to inform everyone that there is now open access to historical issues of three BC newspapers: Vancouver Sun, The Province, and Times Colonist. Anyone who lives in BC can access these collections without any login or library card required.
The editions included are from 2010 back to the beginnings of each of the papers (1884) Times Colonist, (1894) The Province, and (1912) Vancouver Sun.
These collections feature scanned copies of the original newspapers. This gives you the opportunity to read through the articles as they appear on the page. This also means that you can search for things from any part of the newspaper, such as articles, editorials, advertisements, obituaries, and everything else.
With unlimited access to these collections, history awaits your next discovery! For example you could learn about the creation of Port Moody itself at this link April 4, 1913 (Page 13 of 16) - ProQuest Historical Newspapers: Vancouver Sun - ProQuest
We will be happy to help you access the collections, read or download pages, print, and share pages by email. Visit us in person at the Information Desk or send us an email. We can also assist in locating specific kinds of information or using the search tools available.
Access to these collections was made possible by the British Columbia Electronic Library Network (BCELN), BC Libraries Cooperative and Focused Education Resources who negotiated the rights to access these resources throughout BC and Yukon.
